Frisco Secures $850,000 In Federal Funds For Housing And Social Services

Frisco is getting a welcome boost in federal support, with fresh funding headed its way to help make housing more affordable and strengthen local social services. On Aug. 5, the city council gave the green light to a five-year plan for spending $850,410 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The investment will be spread across programs and projects designed to make a real difference for residents, from tackling infrastructure needs to supporting organizations that provide food, shelter and essential services.

Where the Money Will Go

The city’s Social Services and Housing Board recommended a mix of projects and programs for the funds. Just over $500,000 will go toward public improvement and infrastructure upgrades, with specific projects to be determined.

Other funding allocations include:

  • $48,000 for Meals on Wheels Collin County to deliver meals to homebound seniors
  • $33,050 for Frisco Family Services to provide food, clothing, financial aid and case management
  • $35,116.60 for the Samaritan Inn to support shelter and services for people experiencing homelessness
  • $154,888.80 for planning and administrative needs, including compliance, monitoring, fair housing and homeless services coordination

Long-Term Impact

The approved projects and programs are expected to roll out by Sept. 30, 2026. The city’s participation in the CDBG program isn’t new. Over the past 21 years, Frisco has received more than $10.5 million in federal funds through the initiative.

In line with federal guidelines, Frisco also conducts public hearings as part of its consolidated plan and annual action plan, ensuring residents have a voice in how the funds are spent.

Building Community Through Investment

While much of the work will happen behind the scenes — through planning, coordination and infrastructure upgrades — the goal is simple: strengthen community resources and make Frisco a more accessible and supportive place to live for those who need it most.
