What would you do if you won silver and gold at the Olympics? Swimmer Nic Fink returned to work at his engineering day job and even picked up extra work at Raising Cane's.
"I like to eat Cane's a lot — probably more than I should so with my training," Fink told Local Profile. "The Cane's sauce is awesome, so I like to get that in, as much as I can."
Of course, the Raising Cane's gig is part of a sponsorship deal, and Fink's appearance at the chicken finger restaurant's Webb Chapel location marked a homecoming of sorts for the swimmer.
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Fink won silver in the 100-meter breaststroke as well as silver in the 4x100-meter medley relay and gold in the mixed 4x100-meter medley relay.
The medals, Fink says, are now at home here in North Texas. "I brought them back with me in a couple of socks, because those are easy to transport metals in," Fink said.
This September, Fink and his wife Melanie Margalis-Fink are expecting the birth of their first child, a son. Margalis-Fink is an assistant swim coach at SMU and won gold at the 2016 Olympics in the 4×200 freestyle team relay.
Leading up to the Olympics, Fink said that his coworkers at his day job have been "awesome," adding, "I've had a weird schedule — you know, kind of going in and out with practices all the time, and they've been nothing but flexible and supportive."
"I've swum in front of millions of people on TV and in a big arena under the biggest lights on stage and somehow it's like, not as nervous as I'm going to be for the baby stuff," he said. "It's really interesting, and it's really fun tackling new challenges like that."
