With Valentine’s Day around the corner, Dallas-based cocktail lounge Kessaku is kicking it up a notch and dedicating the whole month to celebrating love and romance.

Throughout February, Kessaku — which means “masterpiece” in Japanese — is inviting guests to participate in “ema.” Ema is an ancient Japanese Shinto tradition that involves participants writing on wooden plaques, asking the gods for anything from love to academic success, among other requests.

In a Valentine’s twist on the tradition, Kessaku is giving its patrons the chance to write their dreams and aspirations on a fitting heart-shaped plaque. Whether it be finding true love, marital bliss and more, guests will have a space to express their deepest desires while enjoying the cocktail lounge’s full range of offerings.

Kessaku’s dynamic menu includes several types of sushi that can be paired with a wide array of refreshing beverages, such as wine, beer, sake, and of course, cocktails.

If you're looking for a place to spend Valentine's Day, Kessaku also has you covered. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Feb. 15, 2024, guests will indulge in a 9-12 course menu crafted by new sushi chef Jon Griffiths. While guests will have to wait to see the final menu upon arrival, Kessaku has provided an example of what guests can expect.

The evening will begin with a welcome cocktail, after which guests are invited to explore an inventive menu which could include dishes such as scallop sashimi, oysters with ponzu sauce, flounder tiradito, a 4-piece nigiri selection, otsumami, tableside temaki, black truffle miso soup and more.

According to the chef, the evening will end with dessert and a dessert cocktail. Additionally, sake will be paired with each course and guests will enjoy a short sake 101 during their meal.

Relish in this unforgettable dining experience for $250 per person. Reservations must be made at sevn.ly

Kessaku is located at 1401 Elm St. (on the 50th floor), Dallas, TX 75202, and is open Tuesday-Thursday from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday-Saturday from 6 p.m. to midnight.
