Plano To Invest Over Half A Million Dollars In Park Enhancements

Plans to revitalize three local parks in Plano are officially underway. During a recent meeting, the city council approved approximately $629,000 to kick off the first phase of renovations at Windhaven Meadows Park, Westwood Park and Steeplechase Park.

The approved funding will be used to cover architectural and design services as the city begins planning improvements for each park. This early investment marks the beginning of the process that will ultimately bring refreshed amenities and enhancements to these community spaces.

The money will come from Plano’s 2024-25 Capital Maintenance Fund, which is dedicated to maintaining and improving existing infrastructure.

Windhaven Meadows Park: $209,150

The current playground, installed in 1996, is a top priority for replacement. Planned improvements include two age-specific playgrounds with shade structures, a pavilion, a realigned trail with fitness stations, upgraded seating and lighting, drainage fixes, irrigation upgrades and new tree plantings. The project builds on the Windhaven Park Master Plan, finalized in June 2025 after community input.

Design work will cover site plans, geotechnical review, bidding support and construction oversight. Without this approval, the project cannot move forward, leaving outdated infrastructure in place. A construction contract will be awarded once design plans are complete.

Westwood Park’s playground, installed in 1999, will be replaced. Planned improvements include shaded playground equipment, a relocated sport court for ADA compliance, a realigned trail, pavilion, site lighting, drainage fixes, new irrigation and added trees. The work follows the 2025 master plan developed through community input.

Steeplechase Park: $282,660

Plano City Council also approved the contract for design services at Steeplechase Park. The work follows the Steeplechase Park Master Plan, completed in April 2025 through community input.

The park’s existing playground and facilities, originally installed in 1996, are due for upgrades. Planned improvements include drainage and erosion fixes, a new playground area, renovated picnic shelter, resurfaced sports court, new sidewalks, irrigation replacement and added landscaping.
