What Is The CJ Cup

The CJ Cup began in 2017 as a PGA Tour event sponsored by South Korea’s CJ Group — the oldest and largest parcel delivery firm in South Korea — originally held at Nine Bridges Golf Club on Jeju Island. After three years in South Korea, the tournament shifted to the U.S. due to logistical challenges, landing first in Las Vegas and later at Congaree Golf Club in South Carolina. In 2024, the CJ Group deepened its PGA Tour ties by becoming the title sponsor of The Byron Nelson under a ten-year agreement, officially rebranding the event as The CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

“If CJ wants to expand their brand in the U.S., this is a great way for them to do this,” Doge Carter of the Momentous Institute told Local Profile.

The Venue

TPC Craig Ranch plays host to the tournament. The par-72 course stretches 7,468 yards and is known for its fan-friendly layout and challenging final holes. The format is a traditional 72-hole stroke play with a 36-hole cut. This year’s purse is a staggering $9.9 million.

Who’s Playing

Scottie Scheffler returns to THE CJ CUP for the first time since 2023, coming off five top-10s this season, including a fourth at the Masters. He finished T5 in his last start at TPC Craig Ranch after opening with twin 64s. Fellow Texan Jordan Spieth is back after missing the cut last year, but he’s twice contended here, including a runner-up in 2022. Will Zalatoris quietly posted eight made cuts in nine starts but is still chasing a top-10 in 2025. Defending champ Taylor Pendrith also looks to repeat. Sungjae Im enters hot with a T5 at the Masters and T11 at RBC Heritage. Georgia Tech senior Christo Lamprecht, the 2024 Byron Nelson Award winner, makes his 2025 TOUR debut.
