McKinney takes on New Orleans in a battle for the biggest BARKus! Krewe of Barkus Parade, that is. Historic Downtown McKinney will definitely be a colorful, fun time on Sunday, February 7.

The Krewe Of Barkus first got its roots in NOLA (New Orleans, Louisiana) in 1992 as a non-traditional Mardi Gras Parade. One for the dogs. Man’s best friend is the center of this parade with their humans simply as escorts. McKinney’s theme is going to be a good one, “Barkus Does Books – A Salute to Your Favorite Characters in Literature.”

All four-legged canine friends are invited to play dress-up for McKinney’s 14th annual Krewe of Barkus. In years past, more than 250 participants walked in costume next to their owners, while more than 4,500 spectators gawked at creatively clad and cute pups.

Along with the parade, expect a canine costume contest, vendor booths , interactive activities and more. The vendor expo opens at 12:30 p.m. and the parade starts promptly at 2 p.m. Merchants of McKinney have donated over $2,000 in prizes for the different costume category winners.

This is one event certain to make some howl!
