$10.6 Million Boost: McKinney Funds Projects To Elevate Quality Of Life

The McKinney Community Development Corporation (MCDC) approved $10.6 million in project grants to fund a wide range of community improvements. Announced at the Aug. 28 board meeting, the investments support everything from public safety and signage to parks, housing, and entertainment spaces.

MCDC board members reviewed detailed proposals and presentations before awarding the funds, with each project selected for its potential to enhance McKinney’s quality of life for both residents and visitors.

Highlights Of The Funded Projects

The latest round of funding will touch multiple corners of the community. Among the projects are:

  • Adriatica Village Fire Suppression System – $233,137 for replacement of the code-required fire suppression system in the public parking area serving restaurants, shops, a park and amphitheater.
  • Neon Monument Sign – $80,000 to McKinney Main Street for fabrication and installation of a 50-foot neon sign at Hwy. 75 and Virginia, promoting the Historic District.
  • Parks and Trails Improvements – $8 million to McKinney Parks and Recreation Department for accessibility upgrades, trail planning and enhancements at Al Ruschhaupt, Old Settler’s and Erwin Parks.
  • Affordable Housing Repairs – $305,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Collin County for renovations on three affordable housing properties.
  • West Grove Park Enhancements – $2 million to Entertainment Properties 360, LLC for improvements to a privately owned but publicly accessible park at West Grove Retail Development.

“These projects align directly with MCDC strategic priorities and our mission to work as a partner to fund community, cultural, and economic development projects in McKinney,” said Angela Richardson-Woods, MCDC board chair, in an official statement. “Our vision to enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors of all ages and backgrounds is evident in these awarded grants.”

Building On A Track Record Of Impact

Earlier this year, the MCDC provided nearly $37 million in grants to support local businesses, strengthening the city’s economy and fostering growth. In August, an additional $80,000 was awarded for promotional and community event grants to support a slate of events designed to promote tourism and enrich community life across McKinney.

From retail development and affordable housing to mobility infrastructure and community festivals, MCDC has long played a pivotal role in shaping McKinney’s growth. Each grant reflects a strategic investment, ensuring the city continues to thrive as a welcoming, vibrant place to live, work and visit.
