This summer, Collin County families have a unique chance to step into the pages of beloved childhood books (literally).
The John & Judy Gay Library, located at 6861 Eldorado Parkway, is hosting Storyland: A Trip Through Childhood Favorites, a free, interactive exhibit designed especially for children ages 0 to 8 and their caregivers. Open now through Sept. 7, Storyland invites visitors to explore imaginative environments inspired by three iconic picture books.
A Season of Storybook Magic
The exhibit is the centerpiece of Storybook Summer, a season-long celebration of books and storytelling by the McKinney Public Library System. Spencer Smith, director of public libraries, says it’s about more than just fun, it’s about connection.
"This is a fun, meaningful way for families to experience stories together," said Director of Public Libraries Spencer Smith in an official statement. "We're excited to offer something this special to our residents. It also gives a glimpse of what's to come after we complete renovations at the Roy & Helen Hall Memorial Library."

Bringing Beloved Books to Life
Storyland transforms three award-winning children’s books into three-dimensional learning experiences that encourage early literacy through play and imagination:
- The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter: Children enter Peter Rabbit’s world, engaging in activities that build vocabulary, narrative skills and pattern recognition through dramatic play.
- The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats: Visitors step into Peter’s wintry neighborhood to explore themes of observation and discovery after a fresh snowfall.
- Where’s Spot? by Eric Hill: Designed for babies and toddlers, this space uses wall-mounted activities to introduce sound and image recognition through interactive fun.
