Playground, Pickleball And Coffee? Local Good Coffee Co. Lives Up To Its Name

I went for the pickleball… I stayed for the coffee, the community and the sandpit full of happy kids

When I first heard about Local Good Coffee Co. in Plano, someone mentioned the pickleball courts. That was enough to get me curious. But what I found when I actually visited blew me away. This isn’t just a coffee shop, it’s a place where parents can actually breathe, kids can truly play and community just happens.

What I Found (and Why I’m Obsessed)

  • Three full pickleball courts: Free to use, always active and fun to watch even if you’re not playing.
  • A large, fenced playground: Great for kids ages 2–12. It’s visible from nearby seating, so you can still keep an eye out.
  • A shaded sand volleyball court: This was a surprise hit. When I was there, a bunch of little kids were happily playing in the sand while parents sat at a nearby picnic table chatting and sipping coffee. It was relaxed, breezy and the partial shade made it such a nice escape from the sun.

  • A small indoor play area for younger kids: Perfect when it’s too hot (or too cold) to be outside.
  • An adult-only quiet zone: Located inside with a library-style vibe. No talking, no chaos. Ideal if you need to get work done or just want to read in peace.
  • A basketball half-court: Designed for older kids and teens to burn off energy.
  • Tons of seating inside and out: Plenty of space to breathe, snack and connect without the usual “family place” noise level.

Oh, and the coffee? I had a Chai tea with almond milk and loved it. My friend’s Americano hit the spot, too. And because the seating is spaced out, we could actually talk without shouting or feeling like we were in the middle of someone else’s conversation.

Not Just a Coffee Shop

What makes Local Good Coffee Co. even more special is its mission. It’s part of the Local Good Collective, a group of programs and spaces launched by Chase Oaks Church to meet critical needs in North Dallas,

Every drink or snack you buy helps support:

  • The Local Good Pantry (Richardson): Opened in 2023 to serve families in need with food and essentials, always offered with kindness and respect.
  • The Local Good Center (Plano): Home to education programs, job readiness training, wellness initiatives, parenting support and more.

You’re not just buying a latte — you’re helping fund free English classes, fresh produce and life-changing programs for families right here in our community.

My Honest Take?

If you’ve got kids, go. If you work remotely and need a peaceful spot, go. If you love pickleball or playgrounds or Chai tea or just want to be somewhere that feels good, go.

I didn’t expect to fall in love with a coffee shop. But this one? Lives up to the name.
