To find the best places for dogs, Sniffspot turned to its community of dog experts for their insights. With over 6,000 detailed responses from Sniffspot users, the company compiled a list of the 50 most dog-friendly cities in the U.S.
According to Sniffspot, Dallas is beloved by canine locals and pet owners alike. The city earned a ranking of B+ with many dog-friendly perks such as high-quality services and low cost of dog ownership.
"Lots of places are dog-friendly here. Lots of green spaces and trails,” one person wrote about the city. “Nice charming neighborhoods that are pleasant for dog walks!"
Local Profile previously reported that Dallas is also the most dog-obsessed city in the U.S. In Dallas, 79% of Zillow's rental listings signal pet-friendliness, well above the national average, rendering it a haven for dog enthusiasts.
BARK reports that favored dog breeds in the area include golden retrievers and labrador retrievers. The two most popular names for furry friends in Dallas are Bella and Charlie.
In 2023, Zillow data revealed a significant rise in the demand for pet-friendly rentals, with 59% of renters now owning at least one pet, up from 46% in 2019. Specifically, the percentage of renters with dogs increased from 31% in 2019 to 40% in 2023, underscoring a notable shift in housing preferences.
Dog owners consider many factors when deciding where to live. Since dogs are cherished members of the family, finding a dog-friendly city is just as important to them as finding a family-friendly one.
