Frisco’s highly anticipated Universal Kids Resort dropped a new commercial offering a colorful reminder of what’s to come when the family-focused theme park opens in 2026.
Though the ad features no new footage from the actual park, it weaves together clips from Universal’s existing destinations and iconic franchises — like DreamWorks’ Shrek and Trolls, Illumination’s Minions and Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants — to keep the buzz alive. The 30-second spot debuted on YouTube and social channels earlier this month.

Building Anticipation
The resort, currently under construction at the northeast corner of Dallas Parkway and Panther Creek Parkway, broke ground in 2023 and is expected to open in mid-2026. Once complete, it will feature seven immersive lands designed for young kids and their families, each themed around major franchises like:
- Shrek and Puss in Boots
- Trolls
- Gabby’s Dollhouse
- SpongeBob SquarePants
- Minions
- Jurassic World
While the latest commercial doesn’t include construction updates or sneak peeks of the physical park, it marks the start of the resort’s public promotion, likely a sign that more announcements are on the way.

Murals, Renders and More
In June, Frisco City Council approved four vibrant murals that will appear on the resort’s hotel. The artworks, shown to council members by Universal representatives, feature scenes from Shrek’s swamp, Minions mayhem, Bikini Bottom and the glittery world of Trolls. According to the latest renderings, Shrek and Minions will decorate the hotel’s front, while SpongeBob and Trolls will brighten the park-facing side.
The hotel itself, designed by architecture firm Gensler, will serve as the main entrance to the 97-acre resort and include 300 rooms.
What to Expect at the Park
Unlike its larger, more thrill-oriented siblings, Universal Kids Resort is tailored to younger guests. From character meet-and-greets to sensory-friendly gardens, every corner of the park is designed to spark creativity, curiosity and family play.
Kids will be able to earn a boating license with SpongeBob, help Puss in Boots run an adoption fair and explore dino encounters in Jurassic World. A Trolls-themed music festival promises dancing, color and chaos, while Shrek’s swamp will offer a stomping good time in a setting that celebrates messy fun and friendship.
As Universal Creative VP Sarah Gibbon previously said in an official statement, “We considered how we could design a place especially for kids where they could explore, imagine and adventure with their families and friends.”

What It Means for Frisco
With a projected opening in 2026, the development is expected to generate more than 2,500 construction jobs and dozens of permanent positions. Universal has emphasized its commitment to serving the local community and enhancing the region’s family entertainment offerings.
Standard park hours will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with early access starting at 8 a.m. for hotel guests and passholders. On select dates — up to 20 per year — the park may remain open until 10 p.m.
Tickets and hotel reservations are expected to become available later this year, though Universal has not yet confirmed the exact timeline.
Until then, we’ll have to settle for the sneak peeks — and maybe a little guesswork.
