Choctaw Casino & Resort – Durant, located an hour north of DFW, announced that it will be hosting a Mid-Autumn Moon Festival event on Sept. 22 to 24 and Sept. 29 to Oct. 1, 2023.

The Mid-Autumn Moon Festival, which follows the lunar calendar, is a traditional Chinese festival that is held when the moon is at its biggest and brightest. According to the Oklahoma-based casino, the festival serves as a time for family and friends to gather and wish each other good luck and fortune.

To commemorate the annual festival, Choctaw Casino & Resort will be offering complimentary moon cake — a Chinese baked good known for its sweet and savory filling — and traditional Asian tea to visitors of the casino’s Reserve Bar. Additionally, the bar will also be serving up specialty Moon Festival cocktails.

Along with providing refreshments, the casino also plans to get into the spirit of the festival by setting up several lanterns, as a way of representing the moon’s reflection, according to Choctaw Casino & Resort.

The Mid-Autumn Moon Festival at the Reserve Bar will be open from 5-10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights (Sept. 22, 23, 29 and 30), as well as from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays (Sept. 24 and Oct. 1).

For North Texans that can’t make the excursion to Durant, Grandscape, a shopping center located in The Colony, will also be holding its own Mid-Autumn Moon Festival event between Sept. 22 to Sept. 29, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

As part of the festivities, Grandscape will have a special Moon Festival tunnel display for visitors to walk through, as well as a contest for guests to enter, with prizes for the winner including a resort stay, free steakhouse dinner and more.
