The city of Frisco announced plans to collaborate with Prosper Independent School District (PISD) and Broadway Across America/Broadway Dallas (BAA/BD) to create a new arts facility.
The vision for the proposed Frisco Center for the Arts (FCFA) includes a 2,800-seat performance hall designed to host Broadway productions and large touring events, as well as a 300 to 400-seat community hall primarily for PISD, which will also be accessible to community organizations.
Located within the city of Frisco, PISD has over seven square miles of its district boundaries in this area, with more than 2,900 students residing in Frisco. While a specific location for the FCFA has yet to be determined, it will be established within overlapping city and school district boundaries.
The project requires the Frisco city council to place the proposal on a ballot for local voters to decide on funding. The FCFA has a total maximum project budget of $340 million, with Prosper ISD planning to contribute $100 million from its 2023 Performing Arts Center bond funds. The city of Frisco is also exploring private and philanthropic funding sources, which, if approved by voters, would not increase property taxes.
“The city of Frisco has envisioned a performing arts hall for two decades,” said Mayor Jeff Cheney in an official statement. “Last year, we discovered an opportunity to partner with the Prosper Independent School District on such a facility. We’re really excited about the possibilities. Ultimately, the decision to participate will be up to Frisco voters if the proposed project, Frisco Center for the Arts, is placed on a ballot by the city council in 2025.”
On Oct. 21, the PISD Board of Trustees received a report regarding the proposed partnership to develop a state-of-the-art Center for the Arts. “This partnership represents a unique opportunity to maximize resources and create something special for our school community and the broader area,” said Dr. Holly Ferguson, superintendent of schools for Prosper ISD.
Additionally, the city of Frisco finalized a Letter of Intent with BAA/BD to present an annual ‘Broadway Frisco’ series at the new facility.
