In the world of fine dining, a Michelin Star is a huge deal. But for Dallas’ Tatsu, one star isn’t enough — they’ve set their sights on another prestigious honor: the title of America’s Best Restroom. Yes, you read that right.
The sleek sushi sanctuary in Deep Ellum is one of nine finalists in Cintas’ 24th annual competition, where public restrooms are judged on cleanliness, functionality, innovation, visual appeal and unique design.
A Restroom Worthy Of A Standing Ovation
According to Cintas, Tatsu’s bathroom is as meticulously curated as its multi-course omakase. Guests step into a spotless space with crystal-clear mirrors, polished fixtures and a fresh, clean scent. A sophisticated Toto toilet adds a touch of luxury, while vivid koi fish swim across the walls — a whimsical nod to Japanese culture that feels both playful and serene.
“Every detail matters at Tatsu, including the restroom,” Cintas said on the polling site. “From the crystal-clear mirrors to the polished fixtures, the spotless and elegant space echoes the meticulous care shown throughout the meal. The thoughtfully designed restroom reflects Tatsu’s broader commitment to hygiene, especially in the kitchen, where culinary creativity comes to life.”

From Sushi To Sinks, Perfection Is the Standard
Tatsu’s commitment to cleanliness extends well beyond its bathrooms. In the kitchen, Executive Chef and owner Tatsuya Sekiguchi approaches sushi with the same precision and artistry, offering an intimate, seasonally inspired journey through Japan’s freshest flavors.
That attention to detail recently earned the restaurant one of the highest honors in the culinary world — a coveted Michelin Star in November 2024.
The Competition Is Fierce (And Flush With Style)
Tatsu isn’t alone in the race. Other finalists for 2025’s America’s Best Restroom range from park facilities in Minnesota to a rooftop in New York City. The lineup includes:
- Bear Head Lake State Park (Ely, Minnesota)
- City of Fruita (Fruita, Colorado)
- Footprints (Lawrence, Kansas)
- Little America Hotel (Salt Lake City, Utah)
- Moderne Bar (Orlando, Florida)
- The Rooftop at Pier 17 (New York, New York)
- Rosebrook Lodge (Bretton Woods, New Hampshire)
- Tecolote Shores (San Diego, California)
