As layoffs continue to affect families across North Texas, more and more individuals are finding themselves in crisis — struggling to pay rent, keep food on the table and make ends meet. In a city known for its affluence, the rising cost of living in Frisco has made it increasingly difficult for working families to recover from the sudden loss of income.
That is where Frisco Family Services steps in. For more than three decades, the nonprofit has served as a safety net for local residents facing crisis due to job loss, illness, domestic violence and other unexpected challenges.
“When someone loses a job, the ripple effects can be devastating,” said Nicole Bursey, executive director of Frisco Family Services. “We are here to ensure no family in our community has to face that alone.”
Meeting urgent needs with compassion and dignity
Frisco Family Services provides a range of comprehensive services designed to support individuals and families through difficult times. The organization’s market-style food pantry offers fresh produce, dairy, meats and pantry staples in a grocery store-style environment that promotes dignity and choice. Financial assistance programs help cover rent, utilities and prescription medications, often preventing families from becoming unhoused.
For parents like Angela, who recently lost her job due to a corporate downsizing, Frisco Family Services has been a lifeline.
“I was behind on bills, worried about food and unsure how I would take care of my kids. I felt embarrassed even walking in, but they welcomed me without judgment,” she said. “They helped me breathe again.”
Hiring event coming Sept. 11
Recognizing the urgent need for employment support in the wake of increased layoffs, Frisco Family Services is launching its first hiring event on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Frisco Family Services Boxer Community Room, 9111 Dogwood St., Frisco, TX 75033.
The hiring event will connect job seekers with local employers from industries including health care, logistics, retail, education, food service and more. Community partners such as Texas Workforce Solutions will be present to offer résumé assistance, job search tips and workforce readiness tools.

Providing more than a quick fix
In addition to immediate crisis support, Frisco Family Services offers seasonal programs like the Summer Lunch Program, Back2School Bash, Thanksgiving Meal Program and Holiday Store to ensure families can celebrate milestones and holidays with dignity. Clients also receive referrals to partner organizations for counseling, job training and financial education.
Every program is centered around a simple but powerful idea — everyone deserves help, hope and the opportunity to thrive.
“Crisis does not care where you live,” Bursey said. “But community care can make all the difference.”
