The McKinney Farmers Market at Chestnut Square recently earned recognition as one of the top 10 farmers markets in the U.S. and secured the number one spot in both the region and the state of Texas during the 15th annual America's Farmers Market Celebration.
Presented by the American Farmland Trust, the annual America’s Farmers Market Celebration ran from June 19 to Sept. 18, 2023, showcasing the essential markets across the nation making a difference for farmers, ranchers and communities.
More than 2,000 markets nationwide participated in the 2023 celebration with over ten million supporters engaged through voting, visiting the celebration website and engaging with the celebration on social media.
Last year the McKinney Farmers Market came in second place, but this year it earned 2,539 votes, coming in on top for the regional award.
“We believe that every farmers market in America is special in its own way,” the American Farmland Trust said in a statement. “Big or small, in cities or rural towns, farmers markets nourish their communities while helping local farmers, food makers, and artisans thrive. While the AFMC does rank America’s favorite markets, our intention is to lift up the vital role farmers markets play across the country.”
Every Saturday morning (until December), you can find the McKinney Farmers Market nestled in the Chestnut Square Heritage Village at 315 S. Chestnut St. Visitors can indulge in an array of offerings, including fresh local produce, artisan crafts, gourmet coffee, freshly harvested flowers, distinctive ingredients, delicious baked goods, mouthwatering tacos and enjoy activities like pony rides and face painting.
The McKinney Farmers Market receives partial funding from the McKinney Community Development Corporation. When you support local businesses and dine in McKinney, a portion of the revenue generated from a half-cent sales tax is reinvested to enhance the community's visual appeal, cultural offerings and recreational amenities.
