The 2023 Biofreeze USA Pickleball National Championships, the biggest pickleball tournament in history, is taking place in Farmers Branch. Beginning on Monday, Nov 5, 2023, the tournament will see some of the best players in the world showing off their skills at Brookhaven Country Club.

Not happy with just being the largest pickleball tournament with over 4,000 players in the competition, the championship kicked off the seven-day event by breaking a Guinness World Record. On Sunday, Nov. 4, 2023, 288 players hit the courts in an attempt for the most participants in a continuous pickleball match. The attempt lasted for a 12-hour period between 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The effort broke the previous record of 250 participants.

Among the 288 players that participated in the attempt were world No. 1 pickleball players Ben Johns and Anna Leigh Waters.

At just 24 years of age, Johns is the highest-achieving pickleball pro player — male or female — in PPA history with 104 career gold medals, in addition to being the first player ever to win 100 career titles on the PPA Tour.

Sitting second behind Johns for the most PPA titles is Waters, with 83 in her young career. The 16-year-old phenomenon has already accumulated 16 Triple Crowns on the PPA, which is tied for the most all-time alongside Johns.

Other notable players who are set to participate include Federico Staksrud, Catherine Parenteau, Tyson McGuffin, Anna Bright, Jay Devilliers, Hurricane Tyra Black, Collin Johns, Irina Tereschenko and many more.

“Nationals is one of the crown jewel tournaments, and with pickleball’s best athletes going head-to-head and a record prize purse at stake, the competition promises to be fierce and electrifying,” said Connor Pardoe, founder and CEO of the PPA Tour. “Led by Ben and Anna Leigh, the pro player field is exceptionally deep, so the brackets in every discipline will be hotly contested. From singles to doubles to mixed doubles, anything can happen. That’s the beauty of this event, winning and etching your name in the history books means everything.”

This year’s Biofreeze USA Pickleball National Championships features a record-setting prize pot of $200,000. The winning teams in pro gender and mixed doubles will each receive $18,000, while the victorious singles players will each earn over $6,000.

In addition to pro play, the pickleball tournament also features an amateur field of over 3,500 competitors, along with a celebrity match that will kick off the week of action.
