Sweet Addition: Handel's Ice Cream Expands In North Texas With Prosper Location

Handel’s Ice Cream, the beloved brand known for its handcrafted, small-batch ice cream, is celebrating 80 years of serving scoops, and its latest milestone is the grand opening of its new Prosper location.

Located at 201 West Frontier Parkway, the shop officially opened its doors on June 26. The shop spans 2,010 square feet and offers pickup, delivery through DoorDash, Uber Eats and Postmates, as well as catering options.

The new Prosper location joins Handel’s growing Texas presence, offering 48 rotating flavors made fresh on-site, with classics like banana cream pie and seasonal favorites like blueberry cheesecake chunk.

A Family Business Born from a Simple Question

This opening marks more than just a business expansion; it’s a hometown venture led by Prosper residents Mike and Angela Davis. Mike, a former Microsoft software engineer and CTO at NIRVC, previously served on the Prosper Town Council. Angela, an educator and current Executive Director of the American Speech and Debate Association, shares her husband’s deep community ties. Together, they coach for the Prosper Speech and Debate Club and actively support local youth development.

The inspiration to bring Handel’s to Prosper came to life during a simple moment. "One day we were sitting in our car outside of the McKinney Handel’s eating ice cream and discussing what was next for our family," said Angela in an official statement. “Mike looked to me and said, ‘I wonder what it would take to open one of these up in Prosper.’ I smiled at him and said I’d been waiting for him to ask that. We submitted our application for a franchise that same evening."

Bringing a Beloved Brand Home

For the Davises, this venture is as much about community pride as it is about ice cream. “We love Prosper and we love Handel’s,” Mike Davis said. “We are over the moon about the opportunity to bring Handel’s to our hometown.”

With deep roots in Prosper and a passion for mentorship and leadership, the Davis family hopes their shop becomes a local gathering spot for families, friends and ice cream lovers of all ages.

Hours are Monday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday through Sunday until 11 p.m.
