New Restaurant Alert: Urban Cookhouse Brings Alabama-Born Eatery To Prosper

Prosper’s dining scene just got a fresh addition. On Aug. 11, Urban Cookhouse opened its doors at The Gates of Prosper, marking the restaurant brand’s first location in Texas. Known for its “Buy Local. Eat Urban.” motto, the concept first gained traction in Alabama before expanding to new markets.

At the helm is Frisco resident and longtime restaurateur James Zemlock. With three decades in the hospitality industry, Zemlock’s résumé includes leadership roles with Grimaldi’s Pizzeria, The Capital Grille and Tommy Bahama. His latest venture blends his management know-how with a commitment to sourcing ingredients from nearby farmers, artisans and food makers.

“We are so excited to bring Urban Cookhouse to Prosper,” said Zemlock. “We’ve been hands-on in sourcing everything as local as possible in preparation to open. Expect the freshest eggs, greens, honey from our Prosper neighbors and baked goods from local storefronts. A signature coffee blend from 1418 Coffee is also in the works.”

Menu Highlights

Urban Cookhouse’s offerings span more than a dozen sandwiches and wraps, hearty salads, daily soup and entrée plates like grilled pork tenderloin with red chimichurri, lime-marinated steak with rice and “the down home,” a comfort combo of smoked turkey, cheddar pasta and broccoli salad. Vegetarian selections are available, and kids can choose from several $8 meals.

On weekends, the brunch menu takes center stage with a breakfast charcuterie board built for sharing. Designed to feed three to five people, the $25 spread features applewood-smoked bacon, chicken sausage, seasonal fruits, pastries, deviled eggs, yogurt parfaits, nuts, breads, butter and jam. Brunch beverages range from mimosas and Bloody Marys to sangria, beer and coffee drinks, alongside fresh strawberry lemonade and milkshakes.

Market and Take-Home Options

Part of the restaurant doubles as a small market, offering housemade sauces, dressings, salads, spiced pecans, pickles and the brand’s signature orange rolls for customers to take home. Family-style meals, available after 3 p.m., include a choice of protein, two sides, orange rolls and tea for $55, serving four people.
