The city of Frisco recently officially unveiled Origin, a new innovation hub designed to serve as a launchpad for startups, entrepreneurs and venture-backed technologies looking to scale.
Located on the 10th floor of Baylor Scott & White Sports Therapy & Research, Origin is the result of a years-long vision by city leadership to bring world-class innovation programming and industry collaboration to one of America’s fastest-growing cities.
A City Committed to Innovation
Created by the Frisco Economic Development Corporation (Frisco EDC) in 2020, Origin was developed to meet the needs of a rapidly growing tech sector while also creating a community-first space for local entrepreneurs. The facility is operated by Plug and Play, a Silicon Valley-based innovation platform known for connecting startups to large corporations, investors and industry leaders. Frisco selected Plug and Play through a competitive RFP process in 2023.
“This new facility is proof of what’s possible when a city drives with vision, determination and collaborative partnerships,” said Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney in an official statement. “This hub is a starting point for new technologies, businesses and careers in Frisco. I’m excited to see the groundbreaking innovation that will take shape here.”

The 6,000-square-foot space includes private offices, meeting rooms and flexible co-working areas designed to foster collaboration between entrepreneurs, investors and corporate partners. Plug and Play will operate Origin under a membership-based model, hosting events like hackathons, workshops and networking sessions that are open to the broader community.
Plug and Play’s Largest Hub Outside Silicon Valley
The Frisco facility marks Plug and Play’s largest U.S. expansion outside of California. Origin’s focus areas include fintech, sportstech, AI and cybersecurity, aligning with Frisco’s growing tech ecosystem, which now includes over 500 tech companies and several major corporate brands. A key part of the innovation center will be its support for sports technology and human performance, reflecting Frisco’s identity as a national sports and business destination.
“This innovation hub is more than just a physical space, it’s a signal to the world that Frisco is serious about shaping the future,” said Saeed Amidi, CEO and founder of Plug and Play. “Frisco is already a national model for how sports, business and innovation can coexist. We’re honored to bring our global network and proven accelerator model to this remarkable community with values perfectly aligned to our own.”

A Strategic Investment in Frisco’s Future
The Frisco EDC views Origin as a strategic investment in the city’s future, signaling a significant step in its emergence as a national leader in innovation. With support from Baylor Scott & White and Plug and Play, the project has created a unique environment where new ideas, industries and startups can thrive together in Frisco.
The University of North Texas–Frisco will also play a role in the space by sponsoring a dedicated sports innovation zone, adding a key academic partnership to the mix of collaborators.
