Melissa’s growth just added another major milestone: H-E-B will officially open its newest North Texas location in the city on May 14 at 6 a.m. The 131,000-square-foot store — located at 1230 Central Expressway — is the latest addition to H-E-B’s regional expansion and marks a major retail moment for the city, which, as previously reported by Local Profile, ranked No. 5 among the fastest-growing cities in the U.S.

The Melissa store will offer the company’s signature mix of fresh food, Texas-made products and community engagement, complete with curbside pickup, home delivery, an in-store pharmacy and a True Texas BBQ restaurant with its own drive-thru.

Growth Meets Grocery

Situated at the northeast corner of U.S. Highway 75 and Sam Rayburn Highway 121, the new location reflects the continued momentum of Collin County cities like Melissa, Celina and Princeton, which have seen explosive population growth over the last decade.

H-E-B broke ground on the store in early 2024, announcing plans for energy-efficient refrigeration and LED lighting, along with extensive native landscaping. The design, inside and out, aims to reflect the personality of the surrounding community.

At the groundbreaking, H-E-B also awarded $40,000 in donations to Melissa ISD schools as part of its ongoing “Spirit of Giving” commitment. Eight local campuses received $5,000 each, including Melissa High School and North Creek Elementary.

What You’ll Find Inside

In addition to traditional grocery departments, the store will feature:

  • H-E-B Curbside and Home Delivery services

  • An H-E-B Pharmacy

  • A full-service True Texas BBQ with a separate drive-thru

  • Seasonal and specialty items highlighting local and regional vendors

The company expects to create around 600 jobs at the new location, with openings ranging from department managers to cashiers.

Part of a Bigger Picture

As Local Profile reported earlier this month, Melissa is one of five Collin County cities to crack the top 15 nationally in population growth between 2014 and 2023. That growth — driven by affordability, schools and proximity to Dallas — has helped fuel demand for more infrastructure, retail and services across the region.

H-E-B’s arrival underscores that shift. For a city that only recently crossed the 20,000-resident threshold, landing one of Texas’ most beloved grocery chains signals just how fast Melissa is scaling up — and how prepared it is to meet the needs of a booming population.

The Melissa location is part of H-E-B's broader strategy to expand its presence in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Since entering the North Texas market in 2022, H-E-B has opened stores in Frisco, Plano, McKinney and Allen, with additional locations planned in Prosper and Rockwall.
