The city of McKinney will implement mosquito control spraying from Aug. 26 through Aug. 30 to address recent West Nile Virus detections in local mosquito pools.

The spraying will commence at 10 p.m. each night, contingent on weather conditions, targeting a one-mile radius around identified positive mosquito pool locations.

The schedule for the spraying is as follows:

  • Monday, Aug. 26: 2001 S. Central Expressway
  • Tuesday, Aug. 27: 2996 Virginia Parkway
  • Wednesday, Aug. 28: 2321 Lacebark Lane
  • Thursday, Aug. 29: 4269 Eldorado Parkway
  • Friday, Aug. 30: 10302 John F. Kennedy Blvd.

Signs will be placed at major intersections in the affected areas to inform residents of the spraying. The city's website, McKinneyTexas.org/MosquitoControl, will provide additional details, including a map of the spray zones.

As previously reported by Local Profile, North Texas is seeing increased West Nile Virus activity. Denton County reported its first human case of 2024 and positive mosquito traps have been found in Collin County, including Plano, McKinney, Allen and Frisco. Dallas County has confirmed two additional human cases. The CDC emphasizes that West Nile Virus is the main mosquito-borne disease in the U.S., with peak activity from summer through fall.

Residents are advised to remain indoors and keep their pets inside during the spraying. Those who wish to request that spraying be avoided near their homes can contact the city of McKinney Health Compliance at 972-547-7447.
