When it comes to choosing a place to call home, families weigh many factors, from schools and housing costs to commute times. But one consideration often outweighs the rest: safety.
In 2025, two North Texas communities once again proved they offer more than just good schools and suburban charm — they offer peace of mind.
McKinney And Frisco Among The Top 10 Safest U.S. Suburbs
In a new report by SmartAsset, McKinney and Frisco ranked 9th and 10th, respectively, on the list of America’s safest suburbs. The national analysis reviewed 360 suburban cities located within a 45-minute drive of a major urban center. Cities were evaluated across five key metrics: violent crime rates, property crime rates, drug overdose deaths, traffic fatalities and excessive drinking. Both cities stood out with strong overall crime scores.
While the broader national trend saw violent crimes increase from a median of 198 to 231 per suburb, property crime saw a slight dip, from 733 to 706. These shifts highlight the importance of tracking public safety data year over year, especially as cities grow and demographics shift.
Collin County posted a traffic death rate of just 6.88 per 100,000 residents. That figure is relatively low for a populous suburban county, though the data also shows that about 18.2% of adults in the area engage in excessive drinking.
McKinney’s Big Year Continues
For McKinney, the SmartAsset ranking adds another accolade in what’s already been a standout year. The city was previously named the No. 1 most affordable place to live in the U.S. and later topped another list of the best cities for renters in 2025.
With a median monthly housing payment of $2,101 and a household income topping $120,000, residents appear to be getting strong value for their investment in this fast-growing community.
Frisco Holds Steady As A Desirable Suburban Hub

Just down the road, Frisco continues to attract new families and businesses thanks to its livability and strategic growth. With a median housing cost of $2,389 and household income nearing $146,000, Frisco is one of the region’s more affluent communities — but that affluence hasn’t come at the expense of safety.
Its ranking in the top 10 reflects the city’s long-standing commitment to public safety and infrastructure, even as it continues to grow at a rapid clip.
What the Rankings Say About Collin County
The presence of two Collin County suburbs in the top 10 reinforces the area’s reputation as one of the safest — and most desirable — places to live in Texas. While no city is immune to the broader trends that affect crime or public health, both McKinney and Frisco are demonstrating that proactive leadership and a focus on community well-being still go a long way.
