Costco officially began the initial construction stages for its inaugural store in Prosper. Spanning 160,000 square feet, the new location will be situated at the northeast intersection of FM 1385 and University Drive.

The Dallas Business Journal reported that preparations for the store's infrastructure began on March 4, 2024. According to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration from March 2023, the projected cost for the project stands at $17.5 million. However, it's important to note that details provided in TDLR filings are typically preliminary and may undergo revisions.

As Local Profile previously reported, the new store will feature a broad range of products, including groceries, electronics, furniture and other merchandise, all at Costco’s well-known competitive prices. The store will also bring many job opportunities to Prosper, with an estimated 100-300 openings.

"The town council and our community are very excited to welcome Costco to Prosper,” Prosper Mayor David Bristol previously said in an official statement. “Personally, I am very thankful for all the work that the Costco team and the staff of the town of Prosper and the Prosper EDC put in to make this a reality. We are all excited to have a new partner for economic growth in our community."

But Costco isn’t the only grocery retailer moving into the town of Prosper in the near future. In July 2022, H-E-B bought a 19.78-acre patch of land on the corner of Frontier Parkway and the Dallas North Tollway in Prosper. On April 2, 2024, the retail giant officially broke ground on the Prosper location.

The Prosper location will be the sixth store to open in Collin County in the span of two years following the opening of stores in Frisco, Plano, McKinney, Allen and soon Melissa
