The Dallas Festival of Lights - Diwali Mela, will be held on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024, at the historic Southfork Ranch in Parker. This grand celebration invites the community to join in commemorating Diwali, India's most significant holiday, characterized by the triumph of light over darkness.
The event, expected to draw over 15,000 attendees according to the official website, showcases the cultural richness of the South East Asian diaspora and welcomes the broader community to participate. Attendees can expect a vibrant array of activities, including carnival rides, a Diwali bazaar and a spectacular fireworks display.
The festival also features a fashion show, Ram Leela, music and dance performances, pony rides and a special VIP area. The first 2,000 children will receive free sparklers, and the first 500 families will enjoy complimentary mithai. Tickets are available for $8 in advance, with children under 10 admitted free.
The Dallas Festival of Lights offers numerous attractions including carnival rides, food courts featuring Indian street food, stilt walkers, Disney princesses, a bridal expo and an on-stage dance contest and talent show offer young talents a platform to shine, with entries closing on Oct. 3.
Additionally, it will host educational contests in art, math and Shloka, which are free and open to all ages. These contests will provide an opportunity for participants to showcase their creativity and skills, further enhancing the family-friendly environment.
Parking at the event is $10 at the gate, and while the event will proceed rain or shine, the fireworks will be canceled in the case of rain, with all other activities moved indoors. Safety precautions, such as avoiding the use of sparklers at the venue and watching for uneven roads, are advised.
