Get ready to row! The city of McKinney recently launched a new way for visitors to explore Towne Lake Park. Visitors can now use self-service kiosks to rent kayaks to explore the city's waterways in a convenient and affordable way.

“From the comfort of your own kayak, you can paddle around our scenic Towne Lake and simply enjoy the nature surrounding you,” said Interim Director of Parks and Recreation Ryan Mullins in an official statement. “With this new program, we hope to encourage more people to get out and enjoy all of McKinney’s natural beauty.”

Each kayak rental will come with a paddle and life jacket. Rentals cost an initial $3 to unlock the kiosk and then $3 for every 30 minutes. Four kayaks are available for visitors to rent from sun-up to sun-down.

To rent, RentFun app, scan the QR code at the lake, put on your life jacket and set off on your kayak! Rentals are available from sun up to sun down every day.

The city of McKinney is hosting a series of kayaking classes for beginners at Towne Lake Park in September and October. The class teaches the basics of kayaking, safety, how to launch a boat and planning a trip. All equipment will be provided. To register or to learn more about the new way to play in McKinney, visit the city’s website.

But if kayaking isn't your thing, the park also features a range of activities from disk golf to fishing and much more.

Towne Lake Park is located at 1405 Wilson Creek Pkwy and is open from 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
