Frisco ISD Names 2023-24 Teachers of the Year

The educators were chosen by their colleagues at their respective schools

Tara Yell from Bledsoe Elementary and Scott Frantz from Lawler Middle School were recently named Teachers of the Year for Frisco ISD in the academic year 2023-24.

The annual Teachers of the Year celebration took place at the National Soccer Hall of Fame. All nominees, finalists and winners were presented with backpacks filled with congratulatory gifts sponsored by the community. The educators were nominated, chosen and celebrated by their colleagues at their respective schools.

“The nominations we received for these Campus Teachers of the Year were awe-inspiring,” said FISD Superintendent Dr. Mike Waldrip in a statement. “From campus-wide initiatives to making incremental changes that make a world of difference, all of the winners know their students by name and need.”

Yell, a dedicated first-grade teacher at Bledsoe Elementary, has served the district for almost 17 years. Throughout her tenure, Yell has been a vocal advocate for inclusive teaching methods, fostering a warm and supportive atmosphere for her students. Her enthusiasm lies in instilling a passion for reading among her students and aiding their social and emotional growth.

Yell also engages in extensive community involvement. She played an integral role in the 2024 Go Red for Women campaign organized by the American Heart Association and was recognized as a 2024 Woman of Impact by the organization. Yell previously initiated and coordinated the Frisco Gives Back initiative, which successfully raised funds and provided support for frontline healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“She ensures that every child, regardless of background or ability, feels a sense of belonging,” said Bledsoe principal Tran Canal.

Frantz began at Lawler Middle School three years ago, initially serving as a special education inclusion teacher. Currently, he works in the school's newly established SAIL classroom, focusing on students requiring concentrated assistance with social skills, behavior and tailored academic support.

Frantz embarked on his journey in education with a profound dedication to positively impact the lives of students. His motivation stems from a heartfelt desire to provide support and encouragement to children with disabilities.
