Due to rapid housing development in the attendance zones of several McKinney schools, the board of trustees recently authorized slight modifications to the school boundaries.

These changes will be implemented immediately for incoming students and current students beginning in the 2024-2025 school year. The purpose of these adjustments is to prevent overcrowding in these schools due to the significant growth in housing.

During the standard board meeting on March 25, 2024, the McKinney Independent School District administration presented alteration proposals for the school boundaries affecting Frazier Elementary, Press Elementary, Scott Johnson Middle School and McKinney North High School. These adjustments will mainly affect developing neighborhoods north of US Highway 380.

From now on, all new students are mandated to enroll at the campus designated within their current residential zone. However, existing McKinney ISD students attending school, and residing in subdivisions affected by the boundary changes, will have the option to continue attending their current school.

For current McKinney ISD students enrolled in Frazier Elementary, Scott Johnson Middle School, or McKinney North High School as of March 26, 2024, the following grandfathering options will be available:

  • Students in specific grade levels at Frazier Elementary, Scott Johnson Middle School and McKinney North High School residing in the designated area will have a one-time option to stay at their current school until a new zoning plan is in place or until they move.
  • Current 5th and 8th graders in the designated area can choose to stay at their current middle or high school until a new zoning plan is in place or until they move.
  • Younger siblings of current students at Frazier Elementary, Scott Johnson Middle School or McKinney North High School can attend the same school until they finish or until new zoning or relocation occurs.
  • Grandfathered students are approved for transfers and must adhere to McKinney ISD's transfer guidelines, which include arranging their own transportation.
