In Redfin’s recent study of the best places to live in Texas in 2024, several cities earned notable rankings for their combination of affordability, amenities and economic opportunities. In North Texas, Fort Worth, Dallas, Richardson and Plano stand distinguished among Texas’ finest.

Fort Worth is listed as the number one place to settle in Texas. Located along the banks of the West Fork Trinity River, the study reveals that it offers affordable housing options and a strong economic foundation. The city has a small-town feel with the conveniences of a metropolis. Fort Worth's historic downtown area is home to local businesses and iconic landmarks like the Water Gardens and Convention Center, making it attractive to both residents and tourists.

Dallas, neighboring Fort Worth, holds the fourth spot on the list. Known for its cowboy culture and vibrant city life, Dallas offers many recreational activities and a thriving food scene. The study highlights that though it is slightly more expensive than Fort Worth, housing and rental prices in Dallas remain below the national average.

Richardson, just 20 minutes from downtown Dallas, ranks eighth. Often referred to as the Telecom Corridor due to companies like AT&T and Texas Instruments, Richardson offers economic stability and many leisure activities, including vintage games at Free Play Arcade and shows at the Eisemann Center for Performing Arts.

Plano, once a dense Dallas suburb, now ranks as a bustling city and completes the top ten. With a strong economy driven by Fortune 1000 companies like JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America, Plano attracts career-focused individuals. Though, according to the study, real estate prices are high, the city’s high income and diverse amenities make it a desirable place to live.
