On Oct. 1, 2024, Prosper will commemorate the 40th anniversary of National Night Out (NNO), a nationwide event promoting police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.

The festivities will kick off with a “sendoff” gathering at 5:30 p.m. at the Prosper Police Station, located at 801 Safety Way. Following this, officers will visit block parties throughout the town from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

According to the official website, the Prosper Police Department emphasizes the importance of community involvement in making neighborhoods safer and more caring places to live. By raising awareness about crime and drug prevention and garnering support for local anti-crime initiatives, National Night Out is a fun annual event that aims to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.

Participants are encouraged to host block parties that can include a variety of activities such as potlucks, local food trucks, movie nights, yard games and contests. By hosting block parties, residents can connect, exchange contact information and build a supportive neighborhood network while welcoming public safety personnel to their vicinity. Special permits are required for street closures or large-scale entertainment setups, and details can be found in the special event guide and permit application on the town's website.

To participate in this year’s celebration, residents planning to host a block party must complete the NNO block party form, available at prospertx.gov/nno. The registration deadline for block parties is Sept. 27, 2024. For more information, contact Erin Hubbard at [email protected].

For Artesia residents, participation details will be coordinated through the Elm Ridge Police Department.
