Six Collin County Cities Selected As Best Suburbs To Settle In Texas

The ranking included nearly 230 cities and over 18,000 places.

In a report released by Niche, thirty Texas suburbs have emerged as top residential destinations, six of which are in Collin County. These rankings are based on Niche's 2024 Best Places to Live report, which evaluates locales based on various parameters such as the cost of living, educational standards, housing affordability and the quality of schools. This year's rankings included nearly 230 cities and over 18,000 places.

“Choosing where to live is no small task,” said Luke Skurman, CEO and founder of Niche, in an official statement. “Our Best Places to Live rankings have been a compass for navigating these tough choices for ten years. We know that people consider far more than just affordability when deciding where to call home, from neighborhood diversity and weather conditions to career opportunities and the quality of the schools. There’s no one-size-fits-all formula. Our rankings have always aspired to give families, homebuyers, professionals and retirees the data and insights they need to reliably and confidently discover their next place to live.”

Here's an overview of the report's key findings:

Parker, Texas emerges at the 28th position and as #4 in the Best Places to Raise a Family in Collin County category. With a population of 5,573 and a median household income of $202,727, Parker boasts a remarkable 98% homeownership rate. 

Richardson, Texas closely follows at the 27th spot and ranks #12 in the Best Cities to Live in America category. Home to 118,063 residents, Richardson showcases a diverse community with a median household income of $94,362. Residents predominantly own their homes and the area boasts numerous restaurants, coffee shops and parks. With a median home value of $379,800, Richardson provides a diverse and family-friendly community. 

Murphy, Texas secures the 26th position. With a population of 20,880, it is renowned for its family-friendly environment. With top-rated public schools and a rural vibe, Niche ranked it #3 in their Best Places to Raise a Family in Collin County list. The median home value is $458,400, with most residents owning homes. Safety is a priority, reflected in its B+ crime rating as per the report. Residents enjoy a median household income of $152,847 and various job opportunities.

Allen, Texas ranks 21st in Texas overall and #8 in Best Suburbs to Live in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area list. With a population of 105,444, Allen offers residents a dense suburban environment where most own their homes. The community is known for its abundance of coffee shops and parks, attracting many families and young professionals. The median home value in Allen is $390,200 and the area boasts a strong job market with a median household income of $121,259.

Plano, Texas, ranks 11th and #5 in the Best Cities to Live in America. With a population of 284,948 and a median household income of $105,679, Plano stands out for its diverse offerings and exemplary educational facilities, including Plano East Senior High School, ranked #2 in the Best Public High Schools in Collin County.

Frisco, Texas secures an impressive 7th place and is ranked #3 in Best Suburbs to Live in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area list. Home to 202,075 residents and boasting a median household income of $144,567, Frisco offers a dynamic lifestyle complemented by top-notch schools like Liberty High School, ranked #1 in Best Public High Schools in Collin County category.
