Mistakes happen to the best of us, and yes, that includes the State Fair of Texas.
When the fair opened on Sept. 29, 2023, guests noticed the welcome sign read, “We’re glad your here.” But before fair officials could replace the sign with one grammatically correct, patrons snapped a few photos that began going viral.
A user from the Reddit page r/Dallas posted the image saying, “When you are #38 in education” — adding to the harsh feedback from fellow Texans. The post now has been shared over 1,000 times with hundreds of comments.
Thankfully, the state fair caught on quickly and replaced the sign before it could draw further attention.
“Unfortunately, in the rush of fair setup, the sign did not go through our proofing team, but we are all human and make mistakes,” a spokesperson for the fair told Local Profile. “We are thankful to our fairgoers for letting us know. The sign has since been reprinted and Little Big Tex helped replace it earlier this week.”
According to WFAA, the state fair sign wasn’t the only one with a misspelling in North Texas this past week. In Fort Worth, a city worker accidentally added an extra letter to a street sign — the sign read “Northsdide” instead of “Northside.” Fort Worth officials said they would revisit quality control procedures to hopefully prevent mistakes like this in the future.
