Headquarters relocations are nothing new in North Texas, and Collin County has seen more than its share of corporate giants shift addresses over the years. Now, one of the nation’s largest companies may be next in line.
AT&T, the Fortune 50 telecommunications giant, is reportedly considering a move from its longtime base in downtown Dallas to Plano. The company’s current headquarters, Whitacre Tower at 208 S. Akard St., has anchored AT&T since 2008. The 37-story, 1.1 million-square-foot tower is still under lease until 2030, but reports suggest change could be on the horizon.
Plano In The Spotlight
According to WFAA, tips suggest AT&T executives have toured suburban office campuses, including The Park at Legacy in Plano — a sprawling 1.8 million-square-foot corporate development that once housed JCPenney’s global headquarters. Local Profile contacted AT&T about the reported move, but the company declined to comment.
The 107-acre property at 6501 Legacy Dr. is undergoing a major transformation. Beyond its office footprint, plans call for high-rise apartments, retail destinations, hotel accommodations and a walkable layout designed to blend work and leisure. It’s a vision aligned with the way many corporations are rethinking headquarters — less traditional towers, more lifestyle-driven environments that appeal to employees.
A Next-Generation Neighborhood
Plano has already cemented its reputation as a corporate magnet, drawing in names like Toyota North America. The Park at Legacy’s redevelopment represents another step forward in turning northwest Plano into a hub of activity and livability.

With zoning approvals secured and major investment underway, the project positions itself as a prime candidate for the kind of global headquarters AT&T may be seeking.
A Regional Corporate Shuffle
If AT&T does move, it would join a wave of high-profile shifts across Collin and Denton Counties. Just north in Frisco, Keurig Dr Pepper recently announced a major international acquisition and the launch of a new corporate headquarters. The beverage giant plans to acquire JDE Peet’s in a $17 billion deal before splitting into two independent companies, one focused on U.S. beverages, the other a global coffee business.
Together, these moves underscore the region’s continued draw for corporate investment and leadership.
What’s Next?
While AT&T has not made an official announcement, the company’s exploration of Plano sites signals a potential turning point in the region’s corporate landscape. For Plano, securing AT&T’s global headquarters would be another milestone in its rise as one of North Texas’ most important business addresses.
