For the fifth year in a row, the Texas Veterans Commission honored Collin College with gold-level status under its Veterans Education Excellence Recognition Award (VEERA) program. The college has earned this distinction every year since 2021, underscoring its commitment to military-connected students.

The VEERA program recognizes colleges and universities across the state that go above and beyond in serving veterans. Institutions are awarded gold, silver or bronze status depending on the quality and scope of the resources they provide.

This spring, more than 3,000 veterans and military-connected students enrolled at Collin College.

A Commitment To Veterans

The college operates several Veterans Resource Centers (VRCs) designed to ease the transition into higher education while offering a network of support. Students can access help with financial aid, Veterans Affairs education benefits, personal counseling and even connect with the Student Veterans of America.

“Collin College is honored to once again be recognized with gold-level status by the Texas Veterans Commission,” said Dr. Neil Matkin, district president of Collin College, in an official statement. “This recognition affirms our commitment to giving back to those who have served our nation. We are proud to provide veteran and military-connected students with the resources, support, and educational opportunities they need to achieve their academic and career goals.”

Keeping Education Affordable

In addition to supporting veterans, Collin College remains one of the most affordable options in Texas. At a March 25, 2025, board of trustees meeting, leaders voted to maintain current tuition rates for the current fall semester.

With tuition set at just $67 per credit hour for in-district students, the college continues to prioritize affordability, ensuring that students can pursue their education without the burden of rising costs.

Each year, more than 60,000 credit and continuing education students enroll across its campuses. The college offers over 200 degrees and certificates, including bachelor’s programs in nursing, cybersecurity, construction management, clinical operations management and a new software development degree.

As the only public college based in Collin County, Collin College plays a key role in workforce development, partnering with businesses, government and industry to deliver specialized training.
