North Texas universities are making academic waves in U.S. News & World Report’s newly released 2025 rankings of the nation’s best graduate schools. From business and education to engineering and law, institutions across the region earned spots on both national and statewide top 10 lists.
The annual rankings evaluate graduate programs across multiple disciplines including business, education, engineering, fine arts, health and more. This year, U.S. News also updated its Ph.D. rankings in the social sciences and humanities — English, history, political science and sociology — for the first time since 2021, while also spotlighting economics and psychology.
University of Texas at Dallas
UTD continues to shine in business and engineering, placing 3rd in Texas and 31st nationally for its graduate business school. Its engineering program also earned recognition, ranking 6th in the state and 85th nationwide. UTD’s audiology program came in at 5th statewide.
University of North Texas
UNT Denton earned recognition in education, engineering and business. Its education school placed 8th in Texas and tied for 114th nationally, while its engineering and business schools ranked 9th and 11th statewide, respectively.
UNT Dallas also made the list, ranking 9th in Texas for law schools and 163rd nationally.

Fun fact: UNT is ranked 1st in Texas for best college food by Niche for the past three years and 2nd nationally for the best college food by Delish.
Texas A&M University School of Law
The Fort Worth campus of Texas A&M distinguished itself as the 2nd-best law school in Texas and 22nd in the nation. The program earned additional accolades for its specialties, ranking 3rd in dispute resolution and tied for 6th in intellectual property law.
Southern Methodist University
SMU in Dallas posted strong showings across several programs. Its graduate education school ranked 3rd in Texas and 49th nationally, while its law school placed 4th statewide and 43rd across the U.S. SMU’s business and engineering schools also landed in the top 5 and top 15, respectively, within Texas.
Texas Christian University
TCU in Fort Worth landed in the top 10 statewide in both business and education graduate programs.

TCU’s business school ranked 6th in Texas and 43rd nationally, with its education school tied for 7th in Texas and 114th nationally.
Dallas Baptist University
Dallas Baptist appeared at 18th among Texas education programs and 215th in the U.S.
Abilene Christian University
Abilene Christian University in Addison is ranked as the 19th best graduate education school in Texas and 228th in the nation.
