You know the mind-stretching forum called TED Talks? The one made up of brief, powerful speeches that seem to address every topic under the sun? The think tank that has turned unique ideas into meaningful answers? Under the same umbrella, but locally and independently organized, is TEDx and it’s coming to the Courtyard Theatre on Friday, March 25!
TED Talks is partnering with the City of Plano for the 3rd annual TEDxPlano conference. With over 50 hopeful applicants submitting their proposals to the TEDx leadership team and only eight speakers selected, this year promises to be the most dynamic year yet. Shannah Hayley, Director of Marketing and Community Engagement for the City of Plano, will be leading the event. This year’s theme revolves around FWD: Thinking. “It’s going to be an exciting event,” said Shannah. “With a focus on ideas that drive vision and possibility, we hope to motivate and inspire the next great thinkers in North Texas.”
TED first started in 1984 as a global platform devoted to “Ideas Worth Spreading” and as a gathering place for innovators and leaders in technology, entertainment and design. TED has several branches of its brand with the same common goal in mind, to answer the question, “How can we best spread great ideas?” These branches include Conferences, TED Talks, projects sparked by TED Prize, the global TEDx community and the lesson series TED-Ed.
2014’s theme, On the Verge, and 2015’s theme, Beyond, presented speakers on a number of exciting topics like the expanding influence of the Internet, the need for more influential female figures and how social consumerism can change the world. From students to retired teachers, stay-at-home moms to aspiring authors, the range of participating presenters offers a great deal to any audience and a whole lot of ideas worth talking about.
Tickets are $75 for general admission and $50 for students. Due to the limited number of spaces available, we recommend buying sooner rather than later! (Looking forward to the future, The City of Plano assures us that next year’s conference will be available to a much larger audience.) For more information, visit tedxplano.org.
