Amy Yang, the defending KPMG Women’s PGA Champion, teed off her time in Texas with a morning practice round on the Fields Ranch East course at PGA Frisco. Accompanied by her caddie Jan P. Meierling, it may have looked like a regular day on the links, but this visit marked something more significant.

Yang got her first taste of the championship setup while playing alongside Paul Earnest, PGA director of golf and operations at Fields Ranch, and Trish Holt, PGA head golf professional. The round on June 2 gave the reigning champ a crucial preview of the course she’ll face when the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship comes to town later this month on June 19.

Major Moments and Major Voices

The PGA of America hosted its official media day for the 2025 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at PGA Frisco, featuring Yang as the guest of honor. Held at the Home of the PGA of America, which includes the Omni PGA Frisco Resort and the PGA District, the event marked the start of the tournament countdown.

“It brings a lot of good memories,” Yang said during the press conference. “Winning a major championship was one of my biggest goals in my golf career, and I'm very honored to have the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship as my first major.”

During the event, PGA of America President Don Rea Jr. emphasized the tournament’s broader importance. “It’s a major. No doubt about that. But it has a major impact in the community, which for us is just as important,” Rea said. “You’re going to see the best players in the world inside the ropes, but I encourage you to look outside the ropes as well.”

Yang Sizes Up the Course

“The course is playing tough but still fair,” Yang said during a press conference after her round. I think it's going to test all aspects of your game. I can't wait to come back and play the championship.”

This will be the first women’s major championship ever held at Fields Ranch East. The 2025 event, scheduled for June 19–22, also marks the first of two Women’s PGA Championships set to take place at PGA Frisco. The second will return in 2031.

Highlighting Homegrown Talent

During the press conference, a fireside chat brought together a panel including Yang, Rea, Championship Director Jason Mengel, General Chair Ashley Miller and Texas native Katelyn Sepmoree. A PGA Assistant Professional at Willow Brook Country Club in Tyler, Sepmoree also earned her way into the 2025 championship as part of the Corebridge Financial Team.

She’s one of 10 PGA/LPGA Professionals who qualified through the LPGA Professionals Championship or the PGA Women’s Stroke Play Championship.

Ceremonial Tee Shots from the Rooftop

To close out the day, Yang and Sepmoree stood high above the 9th green on the rooftop pool deck of the Omni PGA Frisco Resort. With a swing and a smile, both players launched ceremonial tee shots down toward the championship course, a reminder that the countdown to competition has officially begun.

Frisco and Fields Ranch East are ready for the world’s best. And Yang? She’s ready, too.
