In an effort to retain experienced educators and attract new talent, McKinney ISD approved a comprehensive pay raise for the 2025-2026 school year. The McKinney ISD Board of Trustees gave the green light to the new compensation plan at its June meeting.
The changes include a new starting salary of $63,500 for first-year teachers, along with significant raises for returning educators:
- $2,500 raise for classroom teachers with 3-4 years of creditable service
- $5,000 raise for those with 5 or more years of service
- 4% increase for paraprofessional, auxiliary and maintenance staff
- 3% increase for non-hourly professional employees, including administrators
“McKinney ISD is committed to remaining competitive in today’s challenging job market, and that begins with investing in the incredible people who serve our students every day,” said Superintendent Shawn Pratt in an official statement. “We value the dedication and impact of our teachers and staff, and this compensation plan reflects that appreciation.”

Long-Term Incentives
In addition to the annual salary boosts, McKinney ISD will offer several long-term incentives aimed at encouraging staff to build lasting careers within the district:
- A longevity benefit at retirement: staff receive a check equal to their daily rate multiplied by their years of service in McKinney ISD
- A salary step schedule that extends to 30 years of service
- Stipends for advanced degrees
- A $5,000 stipend for Special Education teachers (Resource, Centralized programs, and Inclusion)
- Contributions to TRS ActiveCare
- Access to the Harold Murphy Counseling Center and the district's sick leave bank
- On-site employee childcare
- Professional learning programs to support career development
Staying Competitive in North Texas
The raises come as nearby districts make similar moves to boost educator pay. Plano ISD recently approved the largest salary increase in its history, offering teachers pay bumps between 4% and 8.5% based on experience. Plano’s new starting salary is $63,000, or $65,000 for teachers with a master’s degree.
Looking Ahead
Last year, McKinney ISD provided a 3% raise across the board. The latest compensation plan continues this upward trend, signaling a multi-year commitment to employee investment. District officials say the new pay structure not only rewards those already in the system but also helps ensure McKinney ISD remains a strong competitor in the regional job market.
