TPC Craig Ranch is about to get a serious upgrade. Just weeks after Dallas native and World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler lit up the leaderboard with a record-tying 31-under-par finish at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, Invited, the private club operator that owns TPC Craig Ranch, announced a sweeping $22 million renovation.

The timing isn’t coincidental: the next Byron Nelson will return to the McKinney course in May 2025, where it will stay for the next 5 years, and the goal is to make the course better than ever.

Lanny Wadkins Leads Redesign

The overhaul will be led by Hall of Fame golfer Lanny Wadkins and marks the first major renovation since the course opened in 2004. Originally designed by the late Tom Weiskopf, the par-72 course has long been known for its natural creeks, elevation changes and strategic layout. But now, nearly two decades later, the club is ready for a full refresh.

Plans include the installation of new turf varieties for improved durability, a complete bunker redesign and repositioning and reshaped greens that allow for more challenging pin placements. The renovations aim to balance aesthetics, playability and performance, bringing the course on par with the country’s top-tier golf venues.

“We’re thrilled about the incredible investment Invited is making in TPC Craig Ranch,” said Jon Drago, tournament director of THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson in 2025. “The thoughtful redesign and enhancements envisioned by the Invited team will undoubtedly elevate the course even further.”

Built for This Moment

TPC Craig Ranch wasn’t just built for members, it was built with the dream of hosting the Byron Nelson. That dream came true in 2021 after years of effort from the city of McKinney and Craig Ranch founder David Craig. With its fan-friendly setup and championship-caliber layout, the course quickly proved it belonged in the spotlight.

The PGA TOUR agreed. In tandem with Invited and the city of McKinney, the TOUR recently extended its agreement to keep THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson at Craig Ranch through 2030.

A Win for McKinney, On and Off the Course

Mayor George Fuller called the extension “tremendous news,” pointing to the tournament’s global visibility and local impact. “This tournament has not only delivered significant economic benefits to our city, but it also gives us a unique opportunity to showcase McKinney to a global audience,” he said in an official statement.

Beyond the local economy, the Byron Nelson has long been a force for good. Hosted by the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, the event benefits the Momentous Institute, a nonprofit focused on children's mental health. To date, the tournament has raised more than $190 million for the cause.

By the time next spring rolls around, TPC Craig Ranch will be nearly unrecognizable, in the best possible way. The updates promise a more challenging course for players, a more engaging experience for fans and a bigger stage for McKinney.
