It’s almost that time of year again. The skies over Plano will be filled with color as the H-E-B | Central Market Plano Balloon Festival makes its return to Oak Point Park, Sept. 18–21.
For four days, North Texans can trade traffic jams and commutes for hot air balloons, fireworks, live music and funnel cakes.
More Than Just Balloons
Sure, the balloons steal the show. Early risers can watch them lift off at sunrise, and night owls won’t want to miss the evening balloon glow, when dozens of balloons light up the park like floating lanterns.
But the festival packs in plenty of ground-level fun too. Families will find inflatables, slides, rides and the Whataburger Kids Korner art tent in the Central Market Kids Fun Zone. Shoppers can browse 35 local vendors selling everything from hand-crafted décor to one-of-a-kind gifts. And for car lovers? BMW of Plano will let guests hop behind the wheel of their ultimate driving machines.

This year’s lineup includes big band tunes from the Plano Symphony Orchestra, cover sets from local favorites Midtown 10 and ICE House Band and performances by the Plano Community Band. Each night wraps with the RE/MAX skydiving team and a fireworks display that has become a signature festival moment.
Festival Schedule
- Thursday, Sept. 18: Kickoff at 5 p.m., with sky divers, balloon glow, big band concert and fireworks.
- Friday, Sept. 19: Midtown 10 keeps the main stage rocking all night, plus a balloon glow and fireworks at 9 p.m.
- Saturday, Sept. 20: Early morning balloon launch, live bands throughout the day and another glow and fireworks finale.
- Sunday, Sept. 21: Sunrise balloon launch and a breezy wrap-up by 11 a.m.
(As always, balloon launches and glows depend on weather — Mother Nature calls the shots when it comes to wind.)
