Trader Joe’s is adding another pin to the map. The beloved grocery chain announced plans to open a new store in McKinney, at 8101 Eldorado Parkway. The location is listed as “coming soon” on the company’s website, but no official opening date has been announced.

This marks the second Trader Joe’s location in McKinney and will be just five miles from the existing store near U.S. Highway 75. It’s a strategic move for the California-based retailer as it looks to deepen its footprint in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, where population growth continues to attract major retail investments.

Why McKinney?

McKinney, home to more than 213,000 residents as of July 2023, remains one of the region’s fastest-growing cities. As previously reported by Local Profile, the area’s surging population is part of a broader trend across Collin County, with new housing developments, schools and businesses reshaping the landscape.

Trader Joe’s joins a growing list of grocers including H-E-B, Tom Thumb and Sprouts Farmers Market vying for shelf space in North Texas communities. Its decision to open another location in McKinney reflects both consumer demand and the city’s increasing economic power.

What to Expect

The new store will feature everything fans have come to love about Trader Joe’s: a rotating selection of private-label goods, crowd favorites like Mandarin Orange Chicken and Cauliflower Gnocchi, and a robust assortment of fresh produce, flowers, cheeses and baked goods.

According to the official Trader Joe’s website, the store will carry “unconventional and interesting products,” along with everyday essentials like milk, eggs and meat — all priced with value in mind. “We are a good source for great cheese, and we offer a vibrant selection of fresh flowers,” the listing reads.

Why People Love Trader Joe’s

For many, Trader Joe’s isn’t just a store — it’s a vibe. The aisles are filled with quirky, offbeat finds (the cookie butter alone has its own fanbase), and the crew members in Hawaiian shirts bring a relaxed, welcoming energy. Prices are low, checkout lines are fast and the experience is refreshingly simple.

Trader Joe’s is also a favorite for people with dietary restrictions. Shoppers will find a wide selection of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free products, many of which are hard to beat in both flavor and cost.

What’s Next

While the company hasn’t shared a specific timeline for the opening, the arrival of a second Trader Joe’s in McKinney speaks volumes about where the city is headed. As development along Eldorado Parkway continues, residents can expect more national names to follow.

And until that new cookie butter aisle is ready, locals can still stock up just five miles away.
